Why You Should Start a YouTube Channel: Insights from a Videographer
Hi, my name is Edward Gebel, and I’ve been working as a videographer in Dubai for almost two years now. I shoot videos for companies, bloggers, realtors, and private clients. Occasionally, I also work on projects related to launching YouTube channels and managing social media. In this article, I want to share my experience and explain why you should consider starting your own YouTube channel, whether you’re going for a budget-friendly approach or planning to hire a team to create a professional YouTube presence.
Why Do You Need a YouTube Channel?
If you’re reading this article, you probably already understand that a YouTube channel is essential for online and social media promotion. So, I won’t dwell on that topic and will instead dive right into the practical aspects. Of course, there are different niches, and I suggest we look at one of the most popular ones—realtors in Dubai. If you want to launch your own channel, be prepared for competition. Dubai has around 5-6 thousand realtors, and not all of them run YouTube channels. This means that even if you start filming videos with your phone in a simple format, you’ll already be ahead of 99% of others. The key is to start.
How to Stand Out Among Competitors?
However, to truly stand out and get results, you need to outshine those who are already on YouTube. You can do this through better presentation, valuable content, and high production quality. Videos with good visuals and well-thought-out editing are easier to digest, helping you stand out from your competitors.
Common Mistakes Beginners Make
From my experience, one of the biggest mistakes people and companies make is overthinking and delaying action. Many spend too much time pondering how to do things perfectly, which can drag on for months or even years. My advice: just start. Grab your phone and begin filming yourself, even without a tripod. This will help you take the first step—doing something instead of just thinking about it.
Start Simple
Don’t expect your first video to be perfect. It won’t be, even if you spend a lot of money and hire a team. The important thing is to start small, try it out, gain experience, and then improve your skills. I recommend shooting your first 10-20 videos on your own as practice, and only then consider hiring a videographer or producer.
Long-Term Planning
Don’t expect instant success. To see results, you need to work consistently and for a long time. I would aim for at least 50 videos, which means one video per week for a year. Ideally, aim for 100 videos over two years. This may sound like a long journey, but it’s the path that will help you join the top 0.01% of content creators who actually succeed.
Investments and Budget
Launching and maintaining a YouTube channel requires significant investments. If you plan to produce quality videos weekly, be prepared to spend at least $25,000 over the course of a year.
It's about $500 per video. This includes 2-3 hours of work by a videographer with two cameras, lights, and mics, as well as post-production. I use a remote editor to keep the costs lower.
Conclusion
Starting a YouTube channel is a serious commitment that requires investments, time, and effort. But if you’re ready for the long haul and understand that success doesn’t come overnight, a YouTube channel can become a powerful tool for attracting clients and increasing your revenue. The key is to start, not fear making mistakes, and be prepared for the reality that success will take time, but it will be worth it.
